Emma was tired of the same Saturday night routine: a quiet dinner, a late‑night movie, and a quick trip home. When her friend Sarah suggested a pub crawl in Camden, Emma agreed. By midnight, Emma had tasted three craft ales, sampled a classic British porter, and even met a local street performer. That single night sparked a habit—one that turned her weekends into a living itinerary of London’s best pubs.

Why a Pub Crawl Beats a Single Night Out

Choosing a pub crawl over a single venue offers a curated experience. You visit at least three pubs in one evening, usually within a 20‑minute walk of each other. That means you can compare styles, price points, and atmospheres without spending a fortune. A typical crawl costs between £15 and £25 per person, including a pint at each stop, so you’re not breaking the bank.

Another advantage is the social element. A group of four or five friends can split a bar tab, making the total per person even lower. It also encourages trying drinks you might otherwise skip—like a local micro‑brew or a rare gin.

The Top Three Crawls to Try on a Friday Night

1. Camden Market Crawl

• First stop: The Camden Arms – a 17th‑century pub with a 12‑bar ale house. A pint of their house bitter is £4.50.
• Second stop: The World’s End – famous for its live folk music. Their signature pint of Guinness is £5.
• Third stop: The Fox and Hounds – a hidden gem known for its homemade pies. A pint of their local IPA is £4.25.

Walking this route takes about 15 minutes between pubs, and the whole crawl finishes before 2 a.m. with a total spend of roughly £14 per person.

2. Soho & Covent Garden Crawl

• First stop: The Churchill Arms – a quirky, floral‑adorned pub that serves Thai food. A pint of their local lager is £4.75.
• Second stop: The Lamb & Flag – the oldest pub in Soho, offering a historic atmosphere and a 10‑bar selection. A pint of their classic bitter is £4.50.
• Third stop: The Old Queen’s Head – a traditional English pub with a live jazz trio. Their house ale is £4.25.

The total cost for this crawl is about £13.50, and the route is 12 minutes on foot.

3. South Bank & Tower Bridge Crawl

• First stop: The Old Blue Last – a riverside pub with views of the Thames. A pint of their house stout is £5.
• Second stop: The City Arms – known for its extensive whisky list and a small but tasty menu. A pint of their local ale is £4.75.
• Third stop: The Old Vic – a historic theatre pub that offers a nightly comedy show. Their house beer is £4.50.

With a total price of £14.25, this crawl is a bit pricier but worth it for the scenic backdrop and the chance to see a live performance.

Planning Your Crawl: Timing, Transport, and Safety

Start no earlier than 8 p.m. to avoid rush hour traffic and to catch the early evening crowd. If you’re traveling from the city centre, the Tube’s Northern Line will drop you near Camden, while the Central Line serves Soho. For the South Bank route, the Jubilee Line stops right next to the Thames. Always keep an eye on your personal belongings; most pubs in these areas have good CCTV coverage, but it’s wise to stay alert.

Set a budget before you go. If you’re on a tight budget, look for pubs that offer a “pint of the day” at a lower price. Many venues run a special on Wednesdays, but most crawls are best on weekends.
